I am lucky enough to have a friend with a villa in the beautiful south coast region of Portugal known as the Algarve and, having fallen in love with the place, I have visited there every year since about the year 2000.

Much of the Algarve is still unspoiled enough that you can sit atop the wilderness of the yellow-sandstone cliffs that constrast so dramatically with the usually vivid blue skies and let your thoughts drift as you gaze out across the azure sea. If you are in the mood, there is a host of photographic opportunity around you: apart from the fabulous scenery; birds, insects and unusual geology abound.
