Skomer Weekend, June 2007

My friend Frank and I had been planning to go to Skomer Island (off the south-west coast of Wales) for about a year - and finally we made it! The place is a birdwatcher's paradise to visit during the day, but to get the chance to stay there for two nights meant we had the opportunity to see thousands of a rather unusual seabird - Manx Shearwater. Skomer has the largest breeding population in the world.

On our homeward journey, we stopped off for a day and a night at The Forest of Dean - another wonderful place for birdwatching.
